On December 6, 2011, the North Carolina Source Water Protection Program held a one-day workshop in Garner, NC to launch a statewide Source Water Collaborative. Attendees included representatives from state agencies, non-profit organizations, federal agencies, universities, and professional associations. The state Collaborative is envisioned as an autonomous group that will work together across various programs and policies to strengthen and advance protection of the states’ drinking water sources. The workshop made a good start on proposing ideas for a direction and operating structure as well as potential projects in 2012. Attendees agreed to meet on a quarterly basis, beginning in February, 2012. Click here for a summary of the workshop, here for a list of attendees, and here for the group’s brainstorming notes.
